Three cards side by side: BSC-USD and USDT are different display names for one contract, the BEP20 address of that contract starts 0x55d3 and ends 7955, and it is listed on Binance's Proof of Collateral page rather than in Tether's contract table

BSC-USD vs USDT: Binance token, contract and fees

BSC-USD is another display name for the USDT contract on BNB Smart Chain, and the way to identify it is the contract address. Binance mints that contract and lists it on its Proof of Collateral page; Tether's own contract table does not include it.

Say you withdraw 200 USDT from Binance over BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), then look the transfer up and the token is labelled BSC-USD. Nothing was swapped on the way. BSC-USD is a display name that price trackers give to the USDT contract on that chain, and a name is not something you can reconcile a payment against. The contract address is: if it matches the full address quoted below, you are looking at the same USDT that Binance sends and receives over BEP20.

The line worth being fussy about is who made the token. Tether did not put this one on the chain. Binance mints it as a pegged token, and whether the other side credits your 200 depends on whether they support this particular contract.

Is BSC-USD the same coin as USDT? Compare the contract address

One contract, three pages, three names:

The address behind all of them is 0x55d398326f99059ff775485246999027b3197955. It starts 0x55d3, ends 7955 and runs to 42 characters. The OKLink token page prints it in full under the token name. A wallet can label the token however it likes, so the name column is no use for checking. This string is.

To check a transfer of your own, open it in a block explorer, click the token name to reach the token page, and read the address bar or the contract address line. A matching head and tail is not enough. Every character in between has to match too.

Is USDT on BEP20 issued by Tether?

Start with Tether's own list. Its site carries a page for integrators, Supported Protocols and Integration Guidelines, with contract addresses chain by chain. Ethereum, Tron, Solana, Avalanche, TON and Aptos each come with a USD₮ contract address. BNB Smart Chain has a section as well, but the only address in it is for XAU₮, the gold token. No dollar contract is listed there.

Now Binance's side. Its Proof of Collateral page has a B-tokens tab where each coin is split into two columns. "Proof of Assets" on the left lists the addresses holding the locked originals. "Wrapped Token" on the right lists what Binance minted against them. The USDT row has two entries on the right, and the BEP20 one is the 0x55d3…7955 contract, shown shortened with a copy button next to it.

Put the two pages together and the answer is no. The contract that goes by USDT on BEP20 is a Binance Bridge pegged token. It is not a contract Tether deployed on BNB Smart Chain.

The notice at the top of Binance's Proof of Collateral page says it covers Binance Bridge pegged tokens only and is not the proof-of-reserves page. Compare the locked assets with the wrapped supply using the current figures on the Proof of Collateral page.

USDT withdrawal fees on Binance: BEP20 vs ERC20 vs TRC20

Inside a Binance account this token is simply booked as USDT. There is nothing to convert first. You pick BNB Smart Chain (BEP20) at the withdrawal step, and the two columns to read there are the fee and the minimum.

On 13 October 2026 the USDT row of Binance's fee page listed these three networks as follows: BNB Smart Chain (BEP20), withdrawal fee 0.01 USDT; Ethereum (ERC20), 0.5 USDT; Tron (TRC20), 1.5 USDT. The minimum withdrawal was 5 USDT on each of the three and the deposit fee was 0 USDT.

On that 200 USDT, BEP20 costs 1.49 USDT less than TRC20 (1.5 − 0.01); at four withdrawals a month that is 5.96 USDT. Binance notes that withdrawal fees can change with network conditions, so use the fee on the withdrawal screen when you send.

The saving only exists if the receiving end has this network switched on. If the recipient takes TRC20 only, there is no 1.49 to save, and forcing the transfer through can leave it uncredited or cost you the whole amount. How to choose between the three networks is covered in TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20 for a Binance withdrawal.

Once the token sits in your own wallet and you send it on from there, the network fee does not come out of the USDT. It is paid in BNB. Binance Academy's BEP-20 glossary entry says "All BEP-20 token transfers require BNB to pay the gas fee" and tells users to keep a small amount of BNB in the wallet for it. A wallet holding USDT and no BNB at all cannot send.

Can I send BEP20 USDT when the recipient just says "USDT"?

Who issues a token tells you what it is. Whether it gets credited is a separate question, and only the recipient's deposit page answers it.

"We accept USDT" leaves two blanks: which network, and which contract. If the answer is BNB Smart Chain or BEP20, compare the contract address as well, and it should be the 0x55d3…7955 one. If the answer is TRC20 or ERC20, this is not the token they mean. Send over that network instead, or withdraw over it from an exchange.

An address that begins with 0x is not evidence that BEP20 is accepted. Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain share the 0x address format. Which chain the money lands on is one thing, and whether the recipient's platform watches that chain is another; see Does a 0x address mean ERC20? For what to ask the recipient, item by item, there is a list in matching the receiving network before a stablecoin transfer.

Turning it into USDT on another chain

One route from the BEP20 version to USDT on TRC20 or ERC20 is an exchange that currently accepts deposits on BEP20 and withdrawals on the destination network. Deposit over BEP20, wait for the USDT credit, then withdraw over the other network. Budget for BNB gas when sending from your wallet, plus the exchange's withdrawal fee. On the fee-page figures above the withdrawal costs 1.5 USDT out to TRC20 or 0.5 USDT out to ERC20, and each side has its own minimum. With only a few USDT in hand, check the minimum withdrawal before anything else; our guide to small Binance withdrawals covers the three limits to check.

How to spot a fake USDT or BSC-USD token

BEP-20 is a token standard open to anyone. Whoever deploys a token types in its name and ticker, and nothing stops two tokens sharing them. So when an unexpected "USDT" or "BSC-USD" balance shows up, do not go by the name.

  1. Open the token's detail screen and find the contract address.
  2. Compare it character by character with 0x55d398326f99059ff775485246999027b3197955. You can take a clean copy from the copy button beside the BEP20 entry in the USDT row of Binance's Proof of Collateral page.
  3. If it does not match, it is not this contract, whatever balance it shows and however close the name looks. Do not try to deposit it, and do not approve anything on an unfamiliar website in order to "sell" it.

Money someone sends you gets the same treatment, in the same order: the contract in the record first, the amount second.

My wallet shows BSC-USD. Do I need to swap it for USDT before sending?

No. If the full contract address is 0x55d398326f99059ff775485246999027b3197955 (it starts 0x55d3 and ends 7955), it is the same token exchanges accept as USDT on the BEP20 network; only the display name differs. What needs checking is whether the recipient has the BNB Smart Chain network enabled.

Can BSC-USD be sent straight to a TRC20 USDT address?

No. It lives on BNB Smart Chain and TRC20 is on Tron, which is a different chain. If the recipient takes TRC20 only, deposit your tokens over BEP20 to an exchange that supports both networks, then withdraw over TRC20.
